Limited Understanding

February 06, 2017, By: Jimmy Scruggs

We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us. 1 Corinthians 13:12 (MSG)
There are a lot of things in this world we do not understand and when I think about it there are a lot of things about us we don’t understand as well. Then there is the mystery of God–and we realize we know only a little. If our faith was dependent on understanding God, then it wouldn’t be faith. But that is the beauty of it, we can believe without understanding, have hope in the middle of hopelessness, have joy in the middle of trouble. God’s grace covers us, not because we understand, but because he loves us. The next time we get sideways with God because he doesn’t seem to be listening to us or helping us to remove a short coming in our lives; remember this, the Apostle Paul had a thorn in his flesh that God would not remove. Paul didn’t understand why until God revealed it to him, the thorn was to keep him humble as God’s power shined through him. Sometimes in recovery we question God and why he won’t do this or that, or why it’s taking so long to answer our prayers. Maybe God is more interested in the usefulness of the journey and sharing that journey with others than he is in giving us immediate relief from our struggles. I don’t know, I don’t understand it all, I just believe! “At first I didn’t think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, and then he told me. ‘My grace is enough; it’s all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness.'” 2 Corinthians 12: 8-9 (MSG) Love God, love people, Jesus first!
