Mere Inconvenience

January 30, 2017, By: Jimmy Scruggs

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6
There are a lot of things and situations that may happen to us unexpectedly, and how we handle them is a choice. Do we think about how inconvenienced we are in the midst of these situations or do we get out of ourselves and look at the bigger picture. Last weekend, my wife and I were driving to Colorado Springs for a family event and I was lamenting about taking the DI-25 (Dreadful I-25 freeway), I truly dislike that ride. Wouldn’t you know it, we ran into a traffic jam going to the event and again on our way home. I was irritated; I just wanted to get to my destination. But something was different this time; the new road information signs relayed there had been accidents causing the delays. I went from being inconvenienced to thinking about the accident victims. We prayed for them and hoped there were no serious injuries (as it turned out it appeared that people were okay). Amazing isn’t it; when we bring God into the picture we get a clearer perspective. It’s not just about me; it’s about all of us. Recovery is like that; we have unexpected situations arise that sidetrack us, but if we keep Jesus first we realize that most of them are a mere inconvenience in the grand scheme of life. That’s not to say that some things aren’t really big deals, but we shouldn’t be in the habit of making mountains out of mole hills. We learn to expect the unexpected; we mature because of these experiences, not because we were spared from them. Love God, love people, Jesus first! Dana Cramer
