Daring Faith Vision Week: Devotion 2

EVERYTHING STARTS AS A SEED.

God said, “Let the land have seed-bearing plants and trees that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their varieties.” Genesis 1:11

That’s the first principle of the harvest. Every idea started as a seed idea. Every dream started as a dream seed. Every achievement, every nation. America started as a seed idea of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Your life started as a seed – when your father’s seed was connected with your mother’s egg, your life began. Crossroads started as a seed idea. Every living thing on planet earth came from a seed. So everything starts as a seed. A seed is anything valuable that I give away. When you give away praise there’s value to that. When you give away good advice, there’s value to that. When you give away your time there’s value. When you give away your money, when you serve someone, there’s value to that. When you love someone, there’s great value to that. Words can be seeds. Seeds that you plant in people’s minds. And they can grow. They do grow and bear fruit. That’s why we need to choose our words wisely. Especially when we’re talking with people that we love – our friends, our children, our spouse, whomever. Words are seeds. Galatians 5:22-23, But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. If your relationships are not producing the fruit listed above then it’s time to look at what you’re planting. What kind of seeds are you planting in your relationships? Are you planting seeds of trust or distrust? Are you planting seeds of kindness or seeds of crankiness or anger or bitterness? Are you planting seeds that produce fruit or are you planting seeds that are weeds? We will reap whatever we sow. Everything starts as a seed.
  1. What did you hear? What did God say to you as you read today’s Scripture and Devotion?
  2. What do you think? How does it apply to your life?
  3. What will you do? Don’t just be a hearer of the word. Be a doer of the word. (James 1:22)
  4. Now Talk To God: This is where you turn your thoughts into prayer. It could be a prayer of gratitude or praise. It could be a prayer of confession or a request for God’s help. Take a minute to write a prayer of response.
