You Are…

October 17, 2016, By: Jimmy Scruggs

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. Romans 15:7
“For God bought you with a high price.” 1 Corinthians 6:20 My wife and I were driving early Saturday morning when she mentioned how beautiful the sunrise had been; it complimented her early morning time of prayer and reflection. She went on to say she had felt the need to be still and listen, but when she did she couldn’t hear anything, just complete quietness. We laughed a little and then reflected on the beauty of that quietness – a peace that surpasses all understanding. This was a question in our 12 step group last Monday night – describe a time when you felt God’s peace. There was a time when my past was not yet behind me and my daily life was anything but quiet. Days were filled with anxiety, fear, worry, anger, and escape. The daily struggle to get by was all I could handle. Today is different. Not that we don’t have struggles, but that we can be still and know His peace. When Jesus is first in your life you can undo the past to redo a new life. We have been talking a lot about powerlessness and unmanageability in our CR groups lately; the importance of accepting that we can’t fix ourselves by ourselves, the harder we try the worse it gets. I heard a great message at church over the weekend that ties into this. We started a new series that asks the question “why are we here?” I used to ask myself that all the time, something was missing in my life and I couldn’t figure it out until I got honest and started to really surrender my life to Jesus. How God sees us is much different than how we see ourselves and I am so grateful for this truth because I can see myself as so much less. How does Jesus see us? We are accepted, valuable, forgivable and significant. Wow! My pastor asked us to focus on this for the week, you bet I will!! “He forgave all our sins. He cancelled the record that contained the charges against us. He took it and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ’s cross.” Colossians 2: 13-14 “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 Love God, love people, Jesus first!
