Worst to Best

November 14, 2016, By: Jimmy Scruggs

Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him, and how can they believe in him if they’ve never heard of him, and how can they hear about him unless someone tells them, and how can anyone go and tell them without being sent.  Romans 10:13-15
I heard this verse over the weekend at church and went “Wow”, and I had to share how God changed my worst day into my best new day all in the same day. I’m sure I am not the only one who surrendered to God when everything was going right, right? Wrong. I didn’t surrender to God at my best; I surrendered when I was at my worst. Sound familiar? For many of us in recovery this is a fact. It wasn’t until I had nowhere else to go did I finally for the first time honestly surrender my life to him. I heard this in a testimony at CR last Friday night; I heard the same during church over the weekend. It’s strikingly simple in a way; were it not for the pain and suffering that brings this kind of surrender about. Amazing grace met me at my worst and delivered me into a new life to start my best. How can that happen all in one day? Just to ask Jesus, he makes that possible. When we quit playing God and come to our moment of truth, we find that Jesus has always been there. In a more subliminal way, I had to admit there was a God, if in fact I kept getting angry with him. How could I be angry with God if he didn’t exist? God are you really there, why have you abandoned me; that was my daily cry. If you are struggling with believing in God, try something new. Surrender your hurt or habit to him, just crack that door open a tiny bit and let a glimmer of light shine into your life; that is all it takes to get started. Celebrate Recovery is open every Friday night at 7pm at Crossroads Church. If you are looking for a little light to shine on your life just drop on in; it’s free, it’s safe, it’s full of imperfect people finding hope and a new life. Love God, love people, Jesus first!
