Wisdom-Daily Application

October 31, 2016, By: Jimmy Scruggs

Let us strip off anything that slows us down or holds us back, and especially those sins that wrap themselves so tightly around our feet and trip us up; and let us run with patience the particular race that God has set before us. Hebrews 12:1
There was a time when I confused smarts with wisdom. I didn’t want to be wise so much as I wanted to be smart and useful. If I could just read more, analyze more, and go through a recovery process quickly, I would be that much further ahead. In early recovery I was blessed with mentors, in and out of AA, blessed with counseling, but mostly blessed by God. I had a habit of wanting to get “through” recovery quickly so I could get on with life. I would often say “God, why are you taking so long, let’s get going, I’m ready for the next step.” I was talking to my counselor about this one day and he was very insightful when he told me recovery is a marathon but you want it to be a sprint… slow down. God had been saying the same thing “…let us run with patience the particular race that God has set before us.” When it comes to wisdom, it’s about the application of your knowledge in everyday life that makes you wise, you have to experience it. That takes time; you can’t rush it, you can’t hurry God along, you just have to go through it-as long as it takes and it takes a life time. In Celebrate Recovery we take our hurts, habits, and hang-up’s and apply what God is teaching us and by His grace we are freed from our past and become a little smarter and a little wiser – all for the glory of God. Give your life to Jesus, one day at a time for a life time. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts… so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace.” Isaiah 55: 8-12 I want to thank Pastor David for his inspiring message over the weekend in our “What On Earth Am I Here For” series. One of my favorite quotes: “None of us are accidents.” Check it out online; great messages by great pastors! Love God, love people, Jesus first! Dana Cramer
