Struggles

April 11, 2016, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12: 9-10
We had a wonderful testimony last Friday at Celebrate Recovery/Crossroads. It is one of my favorite nights at CR. The courage to share your story with others so that they may find hope in their own struggles is vital to recovery. In that we are part sinner and part saint we have a lot to share with people. I would be hard pressed to share a victory over a struggle if I had never been through a struggle. When denial has its grip on me I can be like that. I don’t have a problem, you have the problem, you’re wrong, you’re blowing this out of proportion. Bottom line is we all have struggles, whether it’s your first day in recovery or 30th year, God tells us we will have struggles and he also tells us to have faith, he is bigger than any of our struggles. We have heard the saying: If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. But, there is something else we need to do–lookup and connect with Jesus. As our faith grows and we gain trust in Jesus, our attitude about the struggle changes. We begin to see that in our struggles we have the opportunity to draw closer to God. James put it this way: Struggles are an opportunity for great joy. It’s taken me awhile to grasp that, we are a work in progress and by God’s grace the journey continues. Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. James 1: 2-3 Love God, Love people, Jesus first! Dana Cramer
