Simple Prayer

March 18, 2019, By: Jimmy Scruggs

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Psalm 139:23-24
I think of my prayer life and I have to be honest, sometimes I’m hitting on all cylinders and sometimes I’m giving lip service. Sometimes I am incredibly focused and sometimes I’m scattered. There have been a few really hard times that prayer wasn’t present—talk about being in dark places. There was a time in my life when hopelessness was my companion; giving up on God, family, friends, and me. With one last cry for help I got on my knees one day and humbly asked God to take control of my life. I said, “God I give up, I can’t do it anymore, will you please help me.” I could sense that God was with me and I felt lifted up immediately, as though he had me by my shirt collar and said, “lets go.” That day started out as another worst day, but ended up being my very best new day; it was the start of my Recovery, my real walk with Jesus. No elaborate lengthy prayer, no schemes or quick promises. It was the first time in my life that I finally got honest and with true humility, surrendered it all to God. Jesus said: “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me.” Matthew 11: 29 This Easter season take some time to reflect on your prayer life; you may be doing well in some areas and lacking in other areas. Spend some focused time in prayer; give a little more attention to areas that you struggle with. Be grateful for all prayer and know that God hears our prayers and is at work in our prayers. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” Colossians 3:16 God loves you; Jesus died for you; His spirit lives in you! Say Yes to Jesus and live Love!
