Second Day of Christmas (Dec 26)

December 26, 2021, By: Jimmy Scruggs

Welcome! As you journey through these Twelve Day of Christmas we invite you to use this approach, which works well for individuals and groups of all ages.

Light a candle. Pause to remember the presence of God filling you with Light and Love.

Pray this Opening Prayer:

Radiant Creator, awaken me to your presence.
Jesus, Light of all Lights, kindle love in my heart.
Spirit of Illumination, guide my path today.

Christmas Reflection for the Day:

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. (John 1:9)

Yet of God’s being who shall be able to speak?
Of how God is everywhere
Present and invisible,
Of how God fills heaven and earth
And everywhere nigh at hand,
According to God’s witness;
I am, God says, a God at hand and not afar off. (Columbanus)

Merry Christmas!

During this adventure of the Twelve Days of Christmas we will discover that “Christmas is not not just a long season of shopping followed by one day of partying; it is twelve days of adventure that beckon us to a lifetime of incarnational living.” (Bruce Epperly)

Thought for Today: The Celts saw Divine revelation as global and universal. “We may turn away from Divine wisdom, but no one is left out of God’s enlightening love” (Epperly). Columbanus (543-615) traveled around the world to share the good news of Christ’s salvation. We, too, can adventure beyond our usual borders to remind people of God’s goodness.

Set your intention for the day. Say: Today I will pray for spiritual enlightenment and look for the light in others, especially when I am tempted to judge or exclude.

Today’s Christmas Prayer: Lead, kindly Light, across the galaxies and in my neighborhood. Let the Christ Child enlighten my soul and help me see light hidden where others see darkness. Let me trust the long arc of your providence as I travel one step at a time in the embodiment of your Realm on earth as it is in heaven. Amen. (Bruce Epperly)
