Let Go

September 05, 2016, By: Jimmy Scruggs

As for us, we have this large crowd of witnesses around us. So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and the sin which holds onto us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us. Hebrews 12:1 (GNB)
Remember the commercial; “Let go my eggo!” Sometimes we can have a pretty hard time letting go, and I don’t mean my eggo, it’s more like ego! Letting go of what interferes with our spiritual journey is a lifelong endeavor but one that needs to be run as we grow in Christ Jesus. God wants more than anything to be in a relationship with us, and oh how patient he is. He knows spiritual maturity is found in the struggle of letting go. I don’t know what you need to let go of, but for me it’s the struggle of selfishness and pride, anger and resentment, fear with its insidious constructs, un-forgiveness and control of others, and attachment to things of this world that interfere with my relationship with God, to name a few. We all have something to let go of and that is the struggle. But without the struggle I doubt we would become strong in Christ, be bold in our faith, be caring of others, and loving to the unloved. Celebrate Recovery isn’t about tearing us down but of lifting us up in truth and love. God doesn’t expect us to be perfect; Jesus took care of that for us. The prayerful action of letting go unleashes the spiritual protein of building spiritual muscle; a strong and vibrant faith. What do you need to let go of? Engage in the struggle, its where freedom and joy are found. Love God, love people, Jesus first! Dana Cramer
