Joy

August 01, 2016, By: Jimmy Scruggs

Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart, I will glorify your name forever. Psalms 86:11-12
Life is full of ups and downs. Flying high one moment and falling the next. The joy of being in Christ is not just a blessing, it is everything. Joy is something as we mature in recovery that sustains us in good times and bad. There are times when life is going good that I forget to thank God. There are times when life is going poorly and I forget to thank God. Sometimes prayer can be the same. I guess you could say I’m still stuck in the “me” more than I care to admit. But God knows that and keeps pouring his love out to us. We are not promised a trouble free life, without struggles and suffering. You don’t have to be in recovery to understand that all Christians, all people, will have trials but what is crucial is that we don’t have to go through them alone. What we are promised is a Savior who has already pronounced victory for us; we don’t have to earn it, it’s already here and done. We need to believe! There is great joy in knowing this. Whether happy or sad, in good times and bad, don’t forget to talk with Jesus and thank him in advance for his answers. “But as for me, I know my redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last.” Job 19: 25 Love God, love people, Jesus first!
