“For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” Philippians 2:13
Celebrate Recovery does a very good job of getting us to look within as we seek Gods help to overcome our hurts, hang-ups and habits. I guess I had it backwards, I always expected “the God out there” to fix me without much effort from me. I spent the first 10 years of my walk with God not really understanding much of the Trinity. I believed in God and in Jesus but never understood the role of the Holy Spirit within me. It’s as if I expected God to transform me from the outside in instead of from the inside out. I missed the simple truth that if God is everywhere then His spirit would also be in me.Many of us have tried all kinds of external approaches to solve our problems; self-help books to self-help groups, career moves to geographical moves, one relationship after another. We may ignore God, but God is God, take comfort in knowing that He never gives up on us. There is Gods job and our job, it is good to know the difference and understand it’s not a competition between you and God; its surrender and being willing to live our lives as Jesus would; to turn away from our sinful world and follow Gods will.My challenge is not to tune out the spirit within but to listen to it. How easy it is to say we are following God only to find that we have turned off our spiritual GPS. God doesn’t get lost, we do. The easiest way to find your way back is to ask Jesus, he will show you the way. His GPS is always on the mark.“Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will lift you up.” James 4:10God loves you, Jesus died for you, His spirit lives in you!
