Full Plate

January 09, 2017, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“Let me be free to speak out the bitterness of my soul” Job 7:11
My plate is full, I can’t do anymore! How many times have we said that to ourselves; something has got to give, I am overwhelmed. I have certainly experienced this many times but I have also learned that I just can’t leave this thought as it is, there has to be something I can do to alleviate the situation. The answer for me is to examine those things on my plate and remove what doesn’t belong. In recovery, we apply this principle in Step 4: “We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.” It’s hard to let God in when our plates are full and we can’t decipher what we need to keep and what we need to let go of. Step 4 is the start of clearing away the past so we can spiritually and relationally live life more fully today. This is a tough step in that most of us would be hard pressed to be fearless and moral in the process. In fact, I would have little success in this endeavor without Jesus and without people to help me along the way. If your plate is full it’s time to do some inventory. Ask Jesus to help you sort through it and toss out the junk; that’s how we begin to find freedom from our hurts, hang-ups and habits. Celebrate Recovery Crossroads will be focused on Step 4 through the months of January and February; please stop on by any Friday night at 7pm, recovery is available to anyone who seeks it. “You will teach me how to live a holy life. Being with you will fill me with joy; at your right hand I will find pleasure forever.” Psalms 16:11 Love God, love people, Jesus first! Dana Cramer
