Daring Faith Devotional: Day 10

WAITING FOR ANSWERED PRAYER.

Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do his will. And I know that I will not be put to shame. Isaiah 50:7 (NLT)

When you pray, expect to hear from God. It’s a simple as that. Expect that God will answer your prayer. This is where faith comes in. We wait expectantly on God, set like a stone, and determined to do his will. Waiting on God is never a waste of time. In fact, it is time well invested in your life. Waiting keeps you focused on God and living in the power of eternal life. Hurry is the death of prayer. One reason we don’t hear God speak is that we don’t wait long enough. He wants us to care enough to sit still and listen. God is teaching us to pay attention. And so sometimes God chooses to wait for you—to settle down and allow God to speak. There are three things we can do while we wait:
  • Wait quietly: Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him (Psalm 62:5).
  • Wait patiently: Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act (Psalm 37:7).
  • Wait expectantly: I wait expectantly, trusting God to help, for he has promised (Psalm 130:5).
When you pray, wait quietly, patiently, and expectantly to hear from God. God promises he won’t disgrace you or shame you. Instead he will affirm you, and God will keep his promises to you.
