Daring Faith Devotional: Day 9

April 11, 2016, By: Jimmy Scruggs

EXPECT GOD TO ANSWER YOUR PRAYERS.

If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, for he is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask him… But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to tell you… If you don’t ask with faith, don’t expect the Lord to give you any solid answer. James 1:5-8 (TLB)

Receiving God’s direction in life depends on two things: Asking the right person—God and asking with the right attitude—expectancy. Have you ever asked God for something but didn’t expect it to happen? So often we say, “God, please guide me!” But then we don’t wait for guidance. We just rush out and start working. We say, “God, I want you to give me wisdom; help me make the right decision.” But we don’t really intend to walk in the way of wisdom. James teaches: When you ask God for wisdom, be sure to watch and listen for the answer. Wisdom is seeing life from God’s point of view. Wisdom is the ability to make decisions the way God makes decisions. God has promised to give you wisdom, if you will ask. If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, for he is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask him (James 1:5). Think about this: God doesn’t make bad decisions or mistakes. If we will trust and listen, God will guide us. But we must ask with faith. If you don’t ask with faith, don’t expect the Lord to give you any solid answer (James 1:8). Where do you need wisdom today? Ask God what you should do, and then expect him to tell you. And give God time to answer your prayer.
