Daring Faith Devotional: Day 8

EXPECT THE BEST: GOD IS AT WORK.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Do you ever find yourself asking, “Why is life so hard?” Frustration is the result of living in a world that is distorted by sin. You can’t avoid suffering. There will be pain. There will be days of doubt. And that’s exactly the time you can expect the best from God, and say in faith: I know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28). No matter how bad the situation may seem, God assures us that God is still in control and that God is working things out for our good. You can begin to expect the best from God by remembering these four important things:
  • The Holy Spirit is praying for you. The Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us… in harmony with God’s own will (Romans 8:27).
  • God uses everything for your good. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him (Romans 8:28). God is greater than your enemies. God is smarter than your critics. God is stronger than your problems. And God is working for good in your life.
  • God wants you to succeed. If God is for us, who can ever be, against us? (Romans 8:31). God wants you to succeed in all those areas where you are failing. God is pulling for you.
  • God will give you what you need. Since God did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t God, who gave us Christ, also give us everything else (Romans 8:32). God solved our biggest problem when he paid for all our sins, including our hidden faults and future mistakes. If God cares enough to save us and give us the gift of eternal life, can’t we allow God to care for the problems in our daily lives? If a problem is big enough to worry about, it’s big enough to pray about. And as you pray about it God will calm your worried heart and help you succeed.
