What’s Love Got to Do With it

August 07, 2017, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:36-40
What’s Love got to do with it? Everything! We just finished our Summer of Love series at Crossroads and at the same time we are focused on Step 12 at Celebrate Recovery. Love and serving go hand in hand, a perfect fit! You can serve without loving, but you can’t love without serving. Many people come to Celebrate Recovery believing that love has passed them by. The idea that we are to love others as we love ourselves takes on a different meaning for those who are dealing with hurts, habits and hang-ups; we aren’t feeling very loving about ourselves. It isn’t until we experience God’s love in our recovery that our hope grows and our faith matures. As God changes us we look at others in a whole new light, just as we look at ourselves in a new light. We come full circle in Step 12; having had a spiritual experience we carry this life changing experience to others as we practice love in all our affairs. When we live out God’s love for us we then know what it means to love our neighbor as our self. Quote from Pastor Matt: “Love is the lens through which we are to see the world.” Amen! Love God, love people, Jesus first! Dana Cramer // Celebrate Recovery at Crossroads
