If Recovery Was Easy, Everyone Would Be Doing It

October 28, 2019, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“After you have suffered a little while, our God, who is full of kindness through Christ, will give you his eternal glory. He personally will pick you up, and set you firmly in place, and make you stronger than ever.” 1 Peter 5:10
I was talking to a person with an addiction last week—actually I was listening to him as he talked about the bottom he had hit: the pain of being in such a place, the fear and confusion in his life, the feeling of abandonment by friends, family and God. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Many of us have been in that place, the pit of despair that leads to hopelessness. I don’t know about you, but when I listen to a newcomer’s story I just can’t help but smile inside. An odd reaction one might say, but really it’s a feeling I get when I am face to face with someone who is meeting Jesus in the worst of times, knowing that a new life is possible for them. If recovery was easy, everyone would be doing it. Celebrate Recovery may be the hardest thing you will ever do, but it may be the most rewarding. In Celebrate Recovery, we have to do our part by getting honest, turning our life and will over to God, and applying action to faith. But the good news is you don’t have to do it alone. We will walk with you the entire way. Hurts, habits, and hang ups bring us to Celebrate Recovery, faith gives us the courage to experience recovery, and gratitude propels us to give back to others in recovery. In our 12-step groups we spend 9 months on the first 9 steps of recovery, clearing away the wreckage of our past. And we spend a lifetime growing in Christ in Steps 10-12. If you’re stuck in a hurt, habit or hang up check out Celebrate Recovery at Crossroads Church. We meet every Friday night, starting at 6pm.

God loves you, Jesus died for you, His spirit lives in you! Say Yes to Jesus and live Love!
