Honest Advent: Day 13

Day 13: Sacred

My eyes have seen Your salvation, Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples. Luke 2:30-31

*sacred

= holy

= not normal

= other than everyday

= the good china

= set apart

= special

= other

= Thou not thee (or me?)

= spiritually loaded with good stuff

= stained (but not dirty) glass

= where heaven and earth collide (nearly)

= temple (remember that your body is a temple–something to keep in mind the next time you stand completely naked before your mirror)

= that thin space where humans and Spirit get close enough to smell one another’s breath and kiss on another on the lips

= Spirit + Sweat

= an especially meaningful conversation

= sex and especially really good sex

= a family gathering where time is suspended and your mind hovers over the scene as you enter into the presence of the hubbub of conversations, the warm smiles, a child’s burbly giggle, the pumpkin pie a-la-mode and the secret wish that you could stay in this moment forever

= the cancer diagnosis hits your soul or the souls of those you love, you grip hands, tears spontaneously combust, sorrow like sea billows roll…and yet…and yet…it is still well with my soul (well mostly well)

= the moment you hear the news, “It’s a girl!” or in my case, “It’s three girls!!!”

= a looooong leisssssssurely booooooring (yawwwwwwwwwwwn) afternoon

= you hear the words, “I love you” and actually believe the speaker of the words

= justice rolls down and the system changes

= “I’m sorry.” “Me too.” (smile)

= O holy night, the stars are brightly shining, it is the night of our dear savior’s birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining, till he appeared and the soul felt its worth…where my soul felt its worth, where your soul felt its worth.
