God Shy

March 04, 2019, By: Jimmy Scruggs

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.” Romans 12:2
Change starts with prayer and continues with prayer. We can have great intentions, but fall flat over and over again because we don’t have the power to make the changes on our own. Until we realize this and accept it we are doomed to repeat the insanity (Step 2). There is a power greater than us and we experience life transformation when we turn our life and will over to God (Step 3). When we experience change we can get a little God shy at times. After all, it is one thing to pray for God to take all of me, but quite another to follow through with it. There are times fear gets in the way; sometimes we don’t want to give up the familiar even if it’s hurting us. At some point many of us, including me, have asked the question, “What are you going to do with me God?” not sure if we want to know the answer. But then I am reminded that all it takes is faith as small as a mustard seed to start a new life. God never said it would be easy. Jesus said we would have some tough times in our faith journey, but he also said, “do not lose faith for I am always with you.” We won’t understand it all and we shouldn’t expect to. I guess that’s why we call it faith. The principles and steps of CR are all about moving forward. Don’t be shy; keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8 Celebrate Recovery Quote: “Some people think their job is to give God instructions. They have it backwards. Our job is to daily seek His will for our lives. You see, God’s guidance and direction can only start when our demands stop.” God loves you; Jesus died for you; His spirit lives in you! Say Yes to Jesus!
