Peace in the Chaos

December 10, 2018, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given.” Isaiah 9:6
As I reflect on this Christmas season I feel compelled to remember that while life seems chaotic at times, there is order in the middle of the chaos. I tend to forget that sometimes. Flying high one moment and hitting the ground hard the next. Life seems to be a mishmash of circumstance with a whole lot of shaking going on. But through it all there is an order to it, not because of anything I do per say, but because of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. It is in God’s realm that we can find Peace in the chaos. The coming of our Lord and Savior was foretold long before it happened, not by happenstance but by the fulfillment of His word. It was His plan all along and we almost missed it, many people missed it back then and many do today. If it wasn’t for a band of blue collar, perfectly imperfect, uneducated disciples; we all would have missed it. But then God is God and he knows what he is doing and he does nothing by mistake. God doesn’t miss anything, but we sure do. As I experience life I am aware there are times that I miss what God has intended for me. Life gets a little crazy, and sometimes I wonder what miracles I missed today. I believe His miracles are all around us, but if I go too fast I won’t see them. In Celebrate Recovery we are taught to slow down; review each day, pray each day and read his word every day. It is in our connection with Jesus that we find Gods direction for our lives; we can practice amends and forgiveness, and we can find peace. God does answer prayer; He does not make mistakes; you are not a mistake; you are His masterpiece. Jesus brings order to chaos, hope for the hopeless, and love to the unlovable.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 “O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me” Psalm 139
