Fears

May 20, 2019, By: Jimmy Scruggs

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Fear—we have all experienced it—and for some, have been paralyzed by it. Fear, in its many variations, can stop us in our tracks if we let it. We can act out in fear, covering up this nemesis by overreacting and becoming defensive; using anger and controlling behavior to hide the underlying cause. For some, addiction becomes a way to deal with fear, only to find out that running from fear just makes it worse. In CR, we talk about reasons why we can get stuck in recovery and one reason is fear. Fear of failure and success, fear of intimacy because of the fear of rejection or being hurt again, or resisting change (growth) because of the fear of the unknown (oh how I got stuck on this one). The bottom line in working through fear is trusting God to do his part and provide the courage for us to do our part. What many have benefited from in CR is the Christ-centered 12-step process we use to walk through fear and gain healing in all areas of our lives. I am reminded this doesn’t happen all at once; a process implies time, energy, structure, commitment and faith. For me, it is a life-long walk with Christ. CR Quote: “Fear paralyzes; faith empowers! Fear disheartens; faith encourages! Fear sickens; faith heals!” “There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love.” 1 John 4:18 (MSG) God loves you; Jesus died for you; His Spirit lives in you! Say “yes” to Jesus and live Love! Dana Cramer // Celebrate Recovery at Crossroads Church
