FAITH IS MORE THAN BELIEVING: TAKE THE NEXT STEP

And Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and began following him on the road. Mark 10:52 (NASB)

What is your next step of faith? You have one! God is always taking you deeper in faith. Everyone has a next step. When we don’t take the next step, we get stuck in a rut. You might say the only difference between the grave and a rut is the length. If we don’t move forward in faith, our hearts will grow cold, and we will feel distant from God. God can’t take us on to steps three, four, and five until we take step one. If you’re asking God to help you with something big, God is saying, “Take the first step in what you know—now.” Perhaps you are aiming for something big. Steady your aim and release the bow. Mark, chapter 10 tells the story of Jesus healing a blind man named Bartimaeus. Before Bartimaeus met Jesus, he was sitting beside the road. After he received his sight from the Lord, he began following him on the road. Which of those two phrases describes your life: sitting beside the road or following Jesus on the road? There is only one way to follow Jesus on the road: Take the next step. Faith takes more than believing. Faith takes more than thinking, talking, or having convictions about Jesus. Faith takes action. It is movement. It is activity. Faith is something you do. In fact, James teaches: If people say they have faith, but do nothing, their faith is worth nothing (James 2:14 NCV). What “next step” will you take today to move forward in faith?
