The Right Thing

“Now your attitudes and thoughts must all be constantly changing for the better… You must be a new and different person.” Ephesians 4:23 (TLB)
Step 2: We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. Step 2 doesn’t tell us we are crazy, no; it just lets us know how insane our thinking can be. Is there a difference, I think so. We define insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Sound familiar? Nothing changes if nothing changes. CR defines sanity as wholeness of mind: making decisions based on truth. If we don’t change what we do, how could we ever expect change to occur? I sometimes marvel at how simple solutions can be and yet they go right over our heads. The truth is found in Jesus, it took me a long time to come to terms with that. In our Christian walk, in our recovery, there are times we get stuck. We can get caught up in our hurts, habits, hang-ups, and there comes a time when we have to try something different to move us forward. I spent the last 3 years of my drinking sitting in my recliner, praying that God would stop the insanity, waiting for God to answer. You know what; I never got the answer while I was in my recliner. My prayers needed to have feet; I had to take some action for recovery to begin. And when I did, God met me right where I was and has been leading the way ever since. What’s holding you back, what keeps you in the chair? Let’s go back and take a look at our definition of insanity. Do you know if you change one word in the definition, take one action, it will change everything? Do you know what that word is? The word is “right.” Doing the right thing over and over again and you will experience different results. Get out of the chair and do the next right thing, do something to change something. Take a risk and try something different, take the next right step, answer God’s call to action. Love God, love people, Jesus first! Dana Cramer // Celebrate Recovery at Crossroads
