The Fix

October 09, 2017, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (MSG)
I’ve been talking to a lot of people this past week about a lot of things, but it all has one thing in common; The struggle between our worldly life and our spiritual life. This is my biggest struggle, maybe it is for you as well. People in recovery are used to chaos; it’s what brings us to CR. But how do we start to climb out of the pit so we can climb the mountain? It starts with an admission that we have hurts, habits and hang-ups that we are unable to fix. There are some things in life we can fix, but when it comes to deep core problems that affect our spiritual life, the fix is found in Jesus. As we continue the process of transforming our natural lives to a spirit-filled one, we find where our real treasure is. That treasure is found in Jesus, but we can’t keep him all to ourselves. After all who lights a candle and then covers it up, our light needs to shine. We learn that sometimes our prayers need to have feet. The question for me today, and maybe for you, is really about where we store our treasure; is it found in this world or in God’s world? In recovery we experience the spiritual truth that “you have to give it away to keep it.” What are we willing to give away this week? Who can we share the love of Jesus with this week? I will give you a place to start; seek someone who could use some hope. Faith, hope, and love are the antidote for despair and loneliness. Peace be with you. Love God, love people, Jesus first!
