The Day After

April 17, 2017, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a washtub or shoves it under the bed. No, you set it up on a lamp stand so those who enter the room can see their way. We’re not hiding things: were bringing everything out into the open. So be careful that you don’t become misers… generosity begets generosity.” Luke 8:16-19
It is the day after Easter and what will we wake up to today? For many of us it’s back to work or school, raising kids or spoiling grandkids like I love to do. For many it’s facing hardships or health issues, looking for a place to live or putting food on the table. In one sense we are back to living our lives, but I hope we see our lives changing from a growing spirit dwelling inside that is of Jesus. I think for many we are filled with gratitude and hope. As I experienced this Easter, I was filled with a new openness and awareness of what Jesus means in my life. I found myself being more vulnerable with Jesus and with others; with a growing awareness of just how valuable people are in my life and how much I need them and how much I am needed by them. I found myself growing in faith and becoming more loving of God and people. I’ve become more aware of the positive aspects of suffering and the good that comes from it. I still work on accepting life as it is; the good and the bad and trusting that God will make all things right if I surrender to his will. I’m still a work in progress and on those days that I struggle I know that Jesus loves me and forgives me as I find hope and strength in him. So today, the day after, what will we do? What can you share with others that Jesus has shared with you this Easter season? Love, hope, forgiveness, and mercy is a good place to start. If you want others to see the righteousness of Jesus share with them how he has transformed your life, shine your light for all to see. Love God, love people, Jesus first!
