Sweet Holy Spirit

October 29, 2018, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” Colossians 3:16
CR Principle 7: “Reserve a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will—Step 11: We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and power to carry that out.” For me, the most challenging aspect of Step 11 was meditation. When you mention the word meditation some people may think of sitting in a lotus position repeating a mantra. Meditation is simply slowing down long enough to hear God. My friends outside of the church call this intuition, and my AA friends speak of this as a God-consciousness. As Christ followers we speak of it as the Holy Spirit.
Peace be with you. And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘receive the Holy Spirit.’”  John 20:21-22
When I meditate, I just get quiet after prayer or Bible reading, I think of a verse, or many times I just focus on Jesus—his presence breathed into me. Sometimes my meditation is short, sometimes it’s just to pause when troubled during a busy day to remind myself who is in charge. But sometimes, when under extreme duress, I will seek the Holy Spirit for lengthy periods of time. It’s times like this that I am truly in awe of His presence. God not only hears our prayers, but if you slow down and listen you will know his response; you will know his good and perfect will for you. Have a great God filled week.
