Stop Digging

June 19, 2017, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
I was talking with a new person at Celebrate Recovery recently. As we shared I listened carefully as he talked of the despair and brokenness he was experiencing, and the anguish and pain he had caused others. Many of us have hit the bottom, digging a hole that seems impossible to climb out of. We try over and over to dig our way out, only to fall right back to the bottom and realize the hole is now much deeper. It doesn’t seem to matter what hurt, habit, or hang-up you are experiencing the story is much the same. So what can we do to change our situation? Getting honest is a start; admit we have problems and admit there are some problems so big that we can’t fix them. If that is true then who can? God can and will if we turn our life and will over to him. When we face our denial and admit we need Jesus, we stop digging and start climbing out of the hole we are in. Where can we go to find help with our hurts, habits, and hang-up’s?  Give Celebrate Recovery a try. You will find it to be a safe place where judgment takes a back seat and the playing field is even; we are all sinners in need of God’s grace and without Jesus we don’t stand a chance. Let God’s power show through your weakness. Stop trying to do life by yourself; experience the hope and love that is found in Jesus. Healing is a new reality when you ask Jesus to be first in your life. “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 Love God, love people, Jesus first!
