Let Go of the Rope

May 15, 2017, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Romans 12:17-18
Have you ever found yourself struggling with someone about something and neither of you can make any head way? Both of you may feel justified about the situation, both may blame the other, both may want to hang on at all costs. What are the costs– anger, resentment, bitterness, anxiety, exhaustion? All serenity busters. The biggest cost may just be your relationship with God. Holding on to un-forgiveness can do that to a person. When you hold onto a problem for too long the problem only gets bigger.  Sometimes the need to be right is all about being wrong. When you find yourself in a tug-of-war and the strain of holding on is taking its toll it’s time to Let Go of the Rope. It takes two people to have a battle and when you let go, the battle stops. The other person may want to continue but you don’t have to. That’s Step 9 in CR; offering amends and forgiveness as a process to letting go of the past. One day at a time!!
