Let Go and Let God

January 15, 2018, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.” John 10:10
Let go and let God is a familiar saying in recovery. There are so many things we hang on to, some seem so right and some are downright disastrous. But in reality, we all get caught up in our stuff, it’s why we come to Celebrate Recovery. Our hurts, habits and hang-ups have gotten the best of us and we are stuck in “self.” But it’s not just alcohol or drugs or other addictions that befall us, it is anything we value or place higher than God. It could be money, attitudes, relationships, career, prestige and even marriage; to name a few. When we put a person, object or habit above God, we can’t live out his purpose for our lives. To live life in all its fullness. To live life in all its fullness requires putting Jesus first in every area of our lives, easier said than done. We all fall short, but God doesn’t condemn us when we do. Condemnation may come from ourselves or each other, but not from God. Instead we receive his grace, mercy and forgiveness. When we first come to Celebrate Recovery it’s all about “me”, but sooner or later it becomes more and more about God and each other. How loving and generous is our Lord? Look no further than the cross. Whatever God has given us, we are to share generously with others; our experience, time, talents, gifts and especially our hearts. You can’t keep it all to yourselves; it was never yours to begin with. Share the Good News!! “Give and it will be given to you.” Luke 11:42 Love God, love people, Jesus first!
