Health

“…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
A lot of people may think Celebrate Recovery is for addicts and alcoholics only. What you may not know is that 70% of people come to CR for other life issues that have crippled them in some way. That’s why we say if you have a hurt, habit, or hang-up CR can help you. As an example of this, my main focus in my current 12-step group is on health. For me, being healthy is a four prong approach and it is different from years past. Being healthy is a combination of spiritual, mental, emotional and physical well-being. If I leave out one of these areas my health suffers. It all starts with Jesus for me; as my relationship grows it starts a chain reaction in other areas of my life. Through CR’s 12-step process of putting Jesus first I can move forward and tackle the tough stuff of life. As we progress in recovery our minds start to clear as we focus on stopping poor behaviors and replacing them with good ones. As we take responsibility for our actions we become emotionally healthier. I don’t know about you, but I had a bad case of emotional immaturity, I was 33 going on 15 when I started my recovery. Growing up was very hard to do, but it is something we have to do, more accurately it is one of many gifts from God as he goes about transforming our minds. But what about our bodies; the older I get the harder it is to be physically fit. In the past I would go at this in a very OCD way to the point my workouts and diets would become another addiction; when I crashed it took many years to recover, I still am. I am learning to tackle this issue as I have many others; I start with God, I get honest, I share, have a group of men around me, I do the work, and I take it one day at a time. I have experienced over the years that we can plug any issue into CR’s 12-step process and gain victory over our hurts, habits, and hang-up’s. What’s holding you back, what’s holding you down? Whatever it is, start with Jesus and finish with Jesus. Do your part and rely on Jesus to do his, he will never let you down. Love God, love people, Jesus first!
