Hands and Feet

May 08, 2017, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense?” James 2:17 (MSG)
“Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.” -Mother Teresa I was thinking about this quote last Saturday as my home church, Crossroads Church, was kicking off Project One for the 11th year in a row. Sixty community projects with sixty teams of volunteers helping people with projects they can’t do themselves. It was inspiring to see so many people from northern Colorado coming together to serve people in need. We had two Celebrate Recovery teams helping people with home and yard repair, and what a wonderful day it was. Being the hands and feet of Jesus means you serve without expecting anything back, you are living out what Jesus has put in you. It’s not about the feeling you get, although it feels great helping people, it’s about the love and joy you put into it; sharing the love of Jesus with each other as you serve people in need. Preaching doesn’t work much these days, but what does work is being a living example of Jesus through giving and helping. Being the hands and feet of Jesus is faith in action. When you are part of 600 people all working together for a common goal it is an amazing thing, you can get a lot done in one day. But you can be a person of one and still be amazing in another person’s life, one day at a time. When you sincerely focus on giving instead of getting something amazing happens, what you get back is so much more than what you gave; it is the joy of Christ working in your life. “My children, love must not be a matter of words or talk; it must be genuine, and show itself in action.” 1 John 3:18 Love God, love people, Jesus first!
