Attitude of Gratitude

November 04, 2019, By: Jimmy Scruggs

Step 11: We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power carry that out.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” Colossians 3:16
I listened to a wonderful message at CR last Friday night on Gratitude. There is an old saying in recovery: “Have an Attitude of Gratitude.” For many of us in CR, we have been moved from an attitude of ingratitude to gratitude. I know I wasn’t very grateful before recovery; easy to be when you’re living in your own personal hell, when a hundred forms of fear is your constant companion, and when you rely on counterfeit gods to bring you happiness and joy instead of our one true God. Many of you reading this know what I am talking about. We come to CR with hurts, habits, and hang ups; some feeling used up and abused, others feeling the guilt and shame of dispensing abuse. Many come feeling hopeless and far from God, some come wondering why a life given to God has turned out so wrong. The miracle of recovery is found through a one-on-one relationship with Jesus and the people he brings into our life. It’s a process that leads us to a heartfelt “Attitude of Gratitude”—For we know who pulled us out of that pit of despair and set us right with God. Sometimes in recovery, life circumstances can still bring us down, and when it does just remember where you came from and realize you don’t live there anymore. Sit down and talk it out with God, use the tools you learned in CR, write out that gratitude list and talk to someone. In fact, after you talk to your accountability partners and sponsor, find someone who is hurting (you won’t have to look far); listen to them, encourage them and love them. If you’re stuck in a hurt, habit or hang up check out Celebrate Recovery at Crossroads Church. We meet every Friday night, starting at 6pm.

God loves you, Jesus died for you, His spirit lives in you! Say Yes to Jesus and live Love!
