Focus

March 27, 2017, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13
What we focus on has huge implications on what we do today. When we focus on the problem it just keeps getting larger. When we focus on the solution we find victory. The choice is ours to make. I use to spend a lot of time focused on what I had lost and how I could ever get “it” back. I found in recovery that I can’t change one thing about my past, instead my focus needs to be on today and in today I can take steps to let go of the past and have hope for the future. What I had lost seemed so demoralizing and defeating at the time, but what I have found has more than balanced the scale. When we get out of the way and let Jesus be in charge, what’s left after the loss is more than enough. We have a daily reprieve from our demons based on our fit spiritual condition; do we focus on our fears, defeats, and character defects or do we focus on Jesus? We have a choice everyday of what we focus on, self-will or God’s will. Some days I stay more focused on God and some days I am more focused on me. God doesn’t expect us to be perfect or sinless. God gave us Jesus to balance the scale, to make us right with Him; keep your focus on Jesus and know that his love lasts forever. Love God, love people, Jesus first!
