Expect the Unexpected

August 27, 2018, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“Don’t be anxious about tomorrow. God will take care of your tomorrow too. Live One Day at a time.” Matthew 6:34
What is your first reaction to the phrase: “The unexpected is always among us.” Would you react with fear, thinking that something bad is going to happen? Or would you react in anticipation that something great is about to unfold in your life? Two sides of the coin; is your glass half full or half empty? I must admit that early in recovery I was still looking over my shoulder, waiting for the other shoe to drop. I doubted myself and I doubted God. Could I really rely on Him? I’m sure many of you can relate. A life lived in fear, anger, resentment, and unforgiveness is a life going south, and the unexpected is just another problem waiting to surface. But recovery can turn that stinking thinking into a healthy and fulfilled life through Jesus Christ. We are transformed by the renewing of our minds to fully expect the unexpected as we give our life and will over to the care of God in Step 3. It’s not to say that the next 9 steps are easy, or that life won’t continue to feel out of control at times, or at any time great difficulty won’t come our way. What recovery does do is give us faith, community, and tools to work through anything. As we journey this long recovery road our faith, trust and commitment to Christ grows. And as we focus on living one day at a time we start to see His miracles in our lives. We can’t change yesterday and we can’t control tomorrow, but if we focus on today we can expect our lives to change for the better. Ask Jesus for the perseverance, courage, and willingness to live fully with him today. Expect God to do the Unexpected!  “Don’t quit before the miracle happens!” Make it a great week this week. Trust God to do his part, but don’t forget to do yours! Dana Cramer // Celebrate Recovery at Crossroads
