Come To Me

September 10, 2018, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29
As I read this verse I am comforted by Jesus’ promise to us. Maybe this verse caught my attention because I’m in need of rest; funny how simple things can be. I’m wondering if any of you need to find rest in Jesus—my guess is there are many. So what is the “rest” Jesus provides us. I think it’s found in the love, peace, and healing that He provides for all of us. I think it’s found in His gentleness and humbleness. To be yoked with Jesus means that we are going in the same direction, seeking and following his will (CR’s 3rd Step), sharing our burdens as we learn to rely on Him. If only we could turn our burdens over a little quicker, trust in Him a little more, seek His will in all our affairs more consistently; if only we could come to Him more completely. Ah, but then we read the words “let me teach you” and we are reminded that this is a process and we have much to learn. All of us struggle at times with a variety of life experiences that can overwhelm us. If we lose sight of Jesus we can find ourselves experiencing fear, doubt, despair, isolation, hopelessness and relapse. But Jesus has the solution, He says come to me, come to me, come to me. We will find rest for our souls as we surrender to him and trust that he knows what we need. Let His Light shine upon you, let Him do for you what you cannot do for yourself. May God bless you mightily this week! Dana Cramer // Celebrate Recovery at Crossroads
