Accepting Grace

May 02, 2016, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” 2 Corinthians 12: 8-9
Last Friday Celebrate Recovery at Crossroads Church celebrated their 12 year anniversary. Thank you Jesus for this program, its leaders and participants, for transforming lives throughout northern Colorado, and to Crossroads Church who has been committed to this recovery program every step of the way. God’s grace is more than enough… God’s grace is amazing. His unmerited favor bestowed upon us, not because we deserve it but because we are loved unconditionally. Funny thing about grace; we can’t demand it, can’t earn it, and don’t deserve it. Jesus personified grace through his teachings and his actions. As believers, His grace is poured over us in abundance; all we have to do is accept it. When I surrendered my life and addictions to God my world changed dramatically; from hopeless to hopeful, from hate to love, from failure to victory, from broken relationships to healed relationships. I rely on God’s grace not because I deserve it, but because I don’t deserve it. When my character defects (control, pride, anger, and justification to name a few) take over, I am still covered by His grace, the problem is I’m not accepting of it when I am too busy playing God. I don’t like this scenario, somehow it seems to cheapen grace, but then again Jesus doesn’t ask me to be perfect, he asks me to love him and to love people. Grace is a free gift but it comes with a price, Jesus paid that price for us. When you accept this, God’s grace takes on a whole new reality in your life. To receive God’s grace is to admit just how undeserving you are of it. It can get all twisted around trying to understand the depth of God’s grace, maybe all I have to do is accept it, say thank you God, and show grace to others. Author Philip Yancey says it this way: “Grace means there is nothing we can do to make God love us more. And grace means there is nothing we can do to make God love us less.” Love God, Love people, Jesus first! Dana Cramer
